Bed Assembly

Step-by-step instructions for assembling your Realwoods bed frame.

All Realwoods bed frames arrive partially dismantled for easier handling. Assembly is straightforward and most customers complete it comfortably without tools beyond what is supplied. If you would prefer us to assemble the bed for you, our optional assembly service is available for £35 at checkout.

The Bed Kit

Each standard bed frame includes one bed kit. Four poster beds include three kits. Before starting, ensure your kit contains all required components.

  • (A) Cross-head screws (for slats)
  • (B) Half-moon washers
  • (C) Nuts
  • (D) Wooden dowels
  • (E) Threaded bolts
  • (F) Spanner

Standard Assembly

The following steps apply whether you have chosen a standard bed frame or a four poster.

Step 1: inserting dowels and threaded bolts into a bed post

1Bed Post Prep

  1. Insert wooden dowels (D) into the top and bottom pre-drilled holes of all four posts.
  2. Screw threaded bolts (E) into the middle holes of each post.

Tip: you may need to gently tap the dowels and threaded bolts with a hammer to ensure they are properly aligned.

  1. Align the three drilled holes at each end of the long sidebeams with the posts.

3Secure Sidebeams

  1. Attach securely using half-moon washers (B) and nuts (C). Tighten firmly.

Tip: ensure the wooden support beam, which has been preinstalled on each side rail, is positioned in the lower position, closer to the floor.

Slats and Support Rails

For larger beds, additional support components may be included. If supplied, position and secure the centre rail(s) and support leg(s) before fitting the slats.

Every bed frame comes with our premium solid pine slats, 27mm thick, for exceptional strength and support.

Tip: if you have a four poster bed, install the slats after completing the four poster assembly steps below.

Secure Slats

  1. Evenly space slats across the frame, resting them securely on sidebeams, and central supports if provided.
  2. Secure slats using supplied screws (A) and a Phillips or crosshead screwdriver. A powered screwdriver is recommended.

Tip: while attaching slats, apply inward pressure on sidebeams, using your leg or body weight, to ensure a tight fit.

Four Poster Assembly

Follow the standard bed assembly instructions above to build the bottom half of your four poster frame. The top half of the frame, the section that defines the four poster, is assembled the same way.

  1. Connect sidebeams to each post using dowels (D), bolts (E), washers (B) and nuts (C), as before.
  2. Connect the two taller posts together with one shorter sidebeam.
  3. Connect the two shorter posts together with the other shorter sidebeam.
  4. Join these two sets together using the longer sidebeams.

Tip: with two people, carefully lift and place the assembled top half onto the bottom half, aligning posts securely onto dowels.
